"Artists can have greater access to reality; they

can see patterns and details and connections that other people, distracted by the blur of life, might miss. Just sharing that truth can be a

very powerful thing."

A Bit of Life

John Anthony Joseph Sr., is a creative born and raised in South Florida, and for the last 10 years, has called Houston,TX home. His early years were impacted by foster care, physical and emotional abuse, and the blessing of adoption. While his humbling beginning had the potential of derailing him; John saw it as a testimony of Gods grace, and hopefully it would be a source of encouragement, for others with similar backgrounds. During his upbringing, John discovered and found solace through creative mediums of music, stage & visual arts. His love for the arts became the vehicle by which John expressed himself and the way he connected to the world.

A Little Inspiration

John's inspiration, comes from his childhood playing instruments in the band. His exposure to stage plays like A Raisin in the Sun and learning of the Harlem Renaissance and the impact those artist and musicians had on politics, literature, and culture. He would discover artist like Louis Armstrong, Elle Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Langston Hughes. In Visual Arts, Ernie Barnes Jr., David Driskell, and Kerry James Marshall. These and many other artist and musicians would inspire him to channel the past.

John was also inspired by the beauty & alchemy of black culture globally. The culture of the late 80's and 90's would have huge impact on John. His family watched sitcoms that depicted the complexities of black culture; shows like 227, A Different World, Cosby Show, Living Single, Fresh Prince, In Living Color, and Martin to name a few. Music specifically, Hip Hop and R&B of the time would have the same impact. These shows & music gave John a sense of pride but also the yearning to create through visuals and sound.

My greatest gift  is being able to love as

a father, husband, brother,  and friend."  Legacy
